Udit Narayan Jha is a Nepali playback singer whose songs we mostly see in Nepali and Bollywood films. Apart from Nepali and Hindi, he has also sung songs in many other languages, mainly in Kannada, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Sindhi, Punjabi, Odia, Manipuri, Bhojpuri and Bengali language.
Udit Narayan started his film career with the Nepali film "Sindoor". After this film, he moved to Mumbai in the year 1978 of playback singing. Udit Narayan got the first break in Hindi cinema by Rajesh Roshan in his film "Nineteen-Twenty". But he got the most success through the songs of the superhit film "Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak". In this film, he lent his voice to songs like "Papa Kehte Hain Bada Naam Karega ...". For this song, he also received the Filmfare Award for Best Playback Singer for the first time.
He then worked with many of the best music directors of Hindi cinema, such as A. R. Rahman, R.D. Burman, Jagjit Singh, Vishal Bhardwaj etc. Udit Narayan sang songs for many hit films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Raja Hindustani, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Lagaan, Swades.
He has won three National Film Awards and five Filmfare Awards. Also in 2001, Narayan was honored with the Prabal Gorkha Dakshin Bahu Award by King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev of Nepal. Narayan was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan Award by the Government of India in 2016.
