Karwa Chauth 2018 - Iowa

Karva Chauth is one of the most significant festivals of Indians. Karva Chauth is a cultural, traditional and auspicious festival for a married woman. In fact, this festival depicts the true love of a wife towards her husband. Also, this tradition is followed from past 100 years in which women pray for the well-being & good health of her husband. Women fast on this day for the long life of their husbands & break it after the sighting of the moon.

Although this day-long fast is widely observed by married women. But unmarried women also do it for their finances or to get the desired husband.

Highlights of Karva Chauth:

1. It's a women day and they love to wear lehenga-choli or heavy traditional suits with jewelry. On this day, women usually wear red & pink colors that again are the symbol of love.

2. Next comes the henna. In short, it is very meaningful to have mehndi on both the hands. According to the tradition, it brings good luck & prosperity to the marriage life of the two. Also, the festival of Karva Chauth is incomplete without mehndi, bangles, sindoor & bindi.

3. Shopping for this festival starts a few days ahead of the celebration. Whether it is a suit, saree, lehnga-choli or all other cosmetics, they buy everything new for the celebration of this festival. For women, Karva Chauth is their day to have all the fun but with a day-long fast!!

4. Furthermore, married women will receive the sargi from other women. It is a kind of offering which includes sweets & eatables (meant to be eaten before sunrise), clothes etc.

Nowadays, men also support their wives in fasting & help them by giving them the rest from the household works. As a matter of fact, they cook for their wives & present them gifts throughout the day for showing their side of love!
